Following an incident where a van exploded the HSE have issued a safety alert regarding mobile oven cleaning services.

Typically, these services involve a van equipped with a dip tank to soak oven parts in hot cleaning solution at the customer’s property.  This is generally heated either electrically or using a gas burner connected to a liquid petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder carried inside the vehicle.

Initial investigations by the HSE have found that many vehicles fitted with gas-fired oven cleaning equipment are not being set up and used safely, this gives rise to various risks including fire, explosion and/or asphyxiation.

The safety alert sets out the actions users and installers should take to ensure that the equipment is installed, set up and used correctly.

Full details of the safety alert and the recommended actions can be found on the HSE’s website at: http://www.hse.gov.uk/safetybulletins/gas-fired-oven-cleaning-equipment.htm?utm_source=hse.gov.uk&utm_medium=refferal&utm_campaign=hse-safety-alerts&utm_term=oven-cleaning-alert&utm_content=news-page
