Overview
These Health and Safety NVQs are work-based qualifications that recognise practical competence at operational, practitioner and strategic levels. Assessment is mapped to your live responsibilities, allowing you to evidence legal compliance, risk control, assurance and leadership in a real working environment.
Assessment takes place alongside your normal role, making this a practical route to qualification without stepping away from your organisation or responsibilities.
- Format: On-site, role-based assessment with structured reviews and remote support
- Duration: Typically 2–12 months, depending on level, scope and access to evidence
- Assessment: Work products, observations, professional discussion, knowledge questioning and witness testimonies
- Levels: 3, 6 and 7
- Certificate validity: NVQ qualification with no expiry
- Prerequisites: Active health and safety responsibilities aligned to the chosen level, with access to current documentation and activities

Assessment and certification
You’ll be assessed by a qualified NVQ assessor against evidence drawn from your real work activities. Assessment includes observation, professional discussion and review of workplace documentation.
On completion, you’ll receive the relevant Level 3, 6 or 7 NVQ certificate. Professional recognition and progression depend on awarding body and institute requirements.
