Updated Gas Safety Code of Practice Released by BCGA
The British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) has published an updated edition of its Code of Practice for the safe use of individual portable or mobile cylinder gas supply equipment.
What the Code Covers
The updated code (CP47 Revision 2: 2024) applies to the use of gas supplied in single cylinders or cylinder bundles. Common gases include oxygen, acetylene, helium, nitrogen, and LPG. Key topics addressed include:
- Cylinder storage, transportation, and handling
- Selection, examination, inspection, and maintenance of equipment
- Preparation for use of equipment
- Closing down procedures
- Emergency operating procedures
- Security of cylinders and equipment

- CP30 – The safe use of liquid nitrogen dewars (Revision 4: 2024): Covers the safe storage, handling, and use of liquid nitrogen in dewars, including devices operating below 0.5 bar.
