Who has published the guidance?
The updated MOT inspection manuals for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) have been published by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

What has changed from April 2025?
From 1 April 2025, the inspection standards have been updated to reflect changes in technology and vehicle design. Key updates include:
- New rules on the size and type of tyres
- An updated list of HGVs exempt from fitting sideguards
- Recognition of radar devices fitted in sideguards
- Updated checks for fuel tanks and systems
- Changes to brake inspection procedures
- Checks on doors and indirect vision devices (e.g. cameras and monitors)
