In November 2021, the HSE launched their Working Minds campaign to tackle mental health issues in the workplace. Alongside promoting mental health issues, the campaign includes a dedicated website with resources for employers.

Recently, a new free e-learning tool was launched as part of the campaign. The tool is split into six short modules designed to guide employers through what they need to do to comply with what the law requires.

All employers have a legal duty to protect employees from being harmed by stress at work. The HSE identifies six main areas of work design that can affect stress levels: demands, control, support, relationships, roles, and change.

  • Employers should aim to manage these, for example, by ensuring that:
    •  Workers are able to cope with the demands of their jobs.
    • Workers can control the way they do their work.
    • Workers receive enough information and support to fully understand their role and responsibilities.
    • When a business is undergoing change, workers are involved in the process.
