We have previously reported on Government plans to improve road safety by making it illegal to fit tyres aged 10 years or older to the front wheels of lorries, buses and coaches and to any wheels of minibuses.

This ban came into place on 1st February 2021 and it is now illegal to fit tyres aged 10 years or older to:
> The front axle of a goods vehicle with a maximum gross weight exceeding 3,500 kg
> The front axle of a bus or coach – including minibuses
> The rear axle of a minibus with single rear wheels fitted

There is an exemption for vehicles of historical interest (40years or older) which are used for non-commercial purposes.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency have also announced that they have updated their guidance on the categorisation of vehicle defects. The updated guidance can be found on the Gov.UK website at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/categorisation-of-defects
