The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) recently published their latest annual report. Some significant headlines for the period 2018/19 include:
- A small increase in the number of reportable injuries to 1,906 from 1,898 the previous year.
- Despite the overall increase in the number of injuries the number of major injuries fell by over a quarter from 453 last year to 325 in 2018/19.
- There was a small increase in the number of fatal injuries up by 1 to 12 for the latest year, agriculture was again the sector with the highest number of fatalities at 7.
- During the year HSENI carried out 5,522 inspections and served 222 formal enforcement notices. They also completed five successful prosecutions, with fines totalling £68,500.
