The HSE have published an updated version of their leaflet “INDG143 Manual Handling At Work A Brief Guide”. The leaflet is aimed at employers and gives information on the problems associated with manual handling and gives guidance and practical advice on how to reduce the risk of injury from manual handling.
While the regulations and the HSE’s policies on manual handling risks have not changed this leaflet has been updated to bring the guidance on how to assess risk into line with other HSE publications. This includes simplified filters on handling while seated and lifting and lowering operations. Also guidance on pushing and pulling operations has been simplified with easier illustrations.
Finally guidance on safe handling techniques has been moved from the leaflet to the HSE’s website.
The revised leaflet can be downloaded from the HSE’s website at: https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg143.htm
