While hydrogen fuelled vehicles are not yet widely available, their use is expected to increase, and such vehicles will need to be subject to the usual statutory testing regimes. The DVSA has developed an interim process for the testing of such vehicles as the use of such vehicles.

The primary issue that the DVSA wants to address is ensuring that hydrogen powered vehicles are leak free, as is the case with gas vehicles (CNG, LNG, and LPG, prior to them being taken into a facility for statuary testing.

The driver of the hydrogen powered vehicle will be required to demonstrate that the vehicle is leak free prior to the vehicle being taken into the facility. To do this, the driver will be expected to bring with them a calibrated hydrogen specific leak detector and personal monitor. The announcement can be found on the Gov.UK website.
