Falls of people or goods from vehicles are one of the most common types of accident involving vehicles at work and it is understood that a significant number of these falls involve the use of tail lifts.

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) recently published new guidance which aims to reduce the risk when delivering palletised goods using vehicles fitted with tail lifts.

This includes information and guidance on:

  • assessing risks,
  • the importance of knowing site conditions and good communication, in particular with the supplier and the delivery site / consignee
  • selecting the right equipment, and
  • moving loads on and of the tail lift

The guidance also includes a driver checklist for tail lift deliveries.

Tail Lift and Pallet Truck Guidance can be downloaded from the RHA’s website at: https://www.rha.uk.net/Portals/0/News/Guidance/Helpful%20Information/Tail-Lift-Doc_Spreads_FINAL.pdf?ver=2021-05-25-004329-387
