The Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety following the Grenfell Tower tragedy recommended that industry and government must ensure that construction products are properly tested, certified, labelled and marketed.

Following on from the launch of the Building and fire Safety Bills in 2020 the government has now announced the launch of a new National Construction Product regulator which will operate within the Office for Product Safety and Standards which will be expanded with an extra £10m in funding.

The regulator will have strong enforcement powers including the ability to conduct its own product-testing when investigating concerns and will have the power to remove any product from the market that presents a significant safety risk and prosecute any companies who flout the rules on product safety.
